"EL Centro" poster series
Posters Documenting the Use of a Mexican Town Square
This collaborative project was born out of fascination from a Mexican town's square-- known as the "zocalo" or "el centro"--and the way it is utilized during its annual festival. The space at the center of Piaxtla morphs into a market place, a carnival, a dance hall, a public park and a shopping center almost seamlessly. It is an extremely flexible space that has the ability to accommodate the needs of two different worlds: the townspeople who live here year-round and the returning population during the festival. In collaboration with architectural designer Nataly Rojas.
